According to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) their investigation of the tuberculosis outbreak in Ninety Six has been going on since March 8, 2013 inside and outside the school as it relates to the contracts of the index (first person affected & contagious). Since its inception, many individuals with a relationship to the two infectious patients (other than those in the school) have been tested and found to carry the germ. However, in the entire investigation inside and outside of the school, there are still only two infectious people identified thus far in the community. Both are affiliated with the school.
